TimkenSteel’s 3,300-ton forge press offers our customers sound-center engineered steel bars. The investment provides an opportunity to focus on new markets, and adds additional capacity and operating efficiencies.
The forge press uses an innovative large-bar forged-rolled process, which we developed and installed to enhance center soundness of a larger cross-section of our special bar quality (SBQ) steel.
Combined with our recent investment in an ultrasonic test large-bar inspection line, the new forging capabilities reinforce our position as a premier provider of sound-center large bars of up to 16 inches in diameter.

The use of a 1″ to 2″ diameter round-bar pump grate is critical, especially when macro fiber dosage exceeds 4 lbs./cu.yd. When the concrete is static, the fiber acts as a cohesive agent, but once vibrated, the fiber concrete quickly ‘melts’ through the round-bar grate. Conventional slatted grates create flow-through issues and time delays with high-fiber mixes. Once past the grate, the fiber-reinforced concrete pumps at more uniform and slightly less pressures than for conventional mixes. Contact FORTA® for grate building tips or for pointers on how to improve a slatted grate once on the jobsite.
