SO I build this little burner over the course of 2 months. The total building time really is only one to two days. Research and tweaking adds to the delays
The normal operating temperature at the vessel is about 300-400 degree Celsius. Hot air from the center pipe reaches up to 500 degree celsius. Once dialed in, the smoke clears and the burner is stable at 400′C.
Currently I run engine oil and hydraulic oil through it with a VERY nasty mix of all kinds of things that really made it smoke.
Ash will build up rather quickly and needs to be removed daily.
Tools I needed to build it:
Grinder, cut off wheel, welder, (plasma cutter was a huge help), pipe cutter, pen and paper, knife, measuring tape, flexible piece of plastic to mark around the pipe, wire brush, hammer (fav tool)
Oil consumption at 400′c about 1.5-2L/hr depending on the oil
Heats single garage from -5 to +20′C in ~30 minutes from startup
The design is a combination of many found on YouTube, the only idea of my own is the retaining system for the pan and combining the (to me) best ideas into a simple design.
Components used: One propane tank, some square steel tubing, 4″ pipe 10 ft., 1/2 steel pipe (drip pipe), 1/2+1/4 copper line, one brake disk NOT VENTED (rear disk), steel cooking pan, some bolts and iron rod for pan mount.
Tools: grinder, plasma cutter, welder (MiG)
One thing I would do different in the future, make the pipe over the brake disk the same diameter or close to it, to prevent restriction and sharp bends.
