This is just a demo of me cutting through a 14 gauge 2″ square tube. I have a video of me cutting through 1/8″ and 1/4″ tuning…. this gauge is what this chop saw was made for. Easy, fast and straight. The cut was not very clean…. it was easy to clean up with a grinder though. Also the cut was a lot better then using a grinder.
Compared to other forms of steel member, hollow sections are very effective at resisting axial loads.
However, when such sections possess thin walls, they are susceptible to local buckling at high compressive strains. The onset of local buckling reduces the ductility of the brace member and may lead to brittle failure.
