Why galvanized steel pipe or galvanized steel tube is the most popular type of galvanized steel tube manufacturing? The reason is the equipment required for manufacturing is relatively inexpensive and the process is highly scalable. Unlike hot-dip galvanized steel pipes, galvanized steel sheets require a shorter processing time, resulting in a thinner iron-zinc alloy layer and a thicker pure zinc layer.
However, since the heat generated during welding of pre-galvanized steel pipes strips the zinc coating from the steel surface, the exposed steel must be resealed using a zinc thermal spraying process. This also means that the welds on the inner wall of the pipe will not be galvanized. The sacrificial anode properties of zinc ensure that the exposed internal welds do not compromise the product’s corrosion resistance or service life.
Pre-galvanizing involves immersing steel sheets in molten zinc for coating. Subsequently, the sheets are cut to size and rewound. During the pre-galvanizing process,a specific thickness of zinc coating is applied to the entire sheet. For example, pre-galvanized Z275 steel has a zinc coating of 275 grams per square meter.
Compared to hot-dip galvanized steel, pre-galvanized steel offers a significant advantage in its superior appearance. Additionally, it is typically more cost-effective. Pre-galvanized materials are widely used in various products, including conduits, flanges, and exposed channels.
What is the difference between pre-galvanized steel pipes and galvanized steel pipes?
Hot-dipped galvanization involves dipping the entire steel or metal structure into a molten zinc vat, resulting in a continuous coating on the surface. Pre-galvanizing is performed at the first stage, before the sheets are cut into sizes and pieces, so that the cut edges are not coated.
